The work of G. Decronbecque

The achievements of Guislain Decronbecque (1797-1870) left a strong mark on the 19th century. He was an important farmer who undertook the task of draining the marshlands around Lens. Employing new methods that were ambitious for the period, he transformed the "Plain of Lens" into fertile land. He was mayor of his hometown for nineteen years from 1846 to 1865.
