11/19 Pit and twin slag heaps
The 11/19 pit and twin slag heaps are one of the four mining heritage sites preserved in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The two numbers 11 and 19 refer to the former pit numbers, 11 for the metal headframe dating back to the 1920s and 19 for the concrete concentration column of built in 1960.
Even if some elements have disappeared, the site is interesting in that it gives an overview of an entire mining site with the pithead, the slag heaps (residues left over from the coal extraction process) and the mining town where the miners lived. The 11/19 Pit has now been converted for sustainable development and cultural purposes with the Scène Nationale certification, Culture Commune, the CPIE La Slag heap Chain, the Centre de Développement d’Eco-Entreprises (CDEE) and the Centre Ressource du Développement Durable (CERDD).
